Fiona(Chuyu)Chen

I graduated from Kingston University with a degree in interior design. My undergraduate studies have given me the ability to construct small-scale spaces that are logical and functional, with a focus on the transformation of old buildings and the exploration of healing spaces. More importantly, I am aware of the importance of pre-research and post-design narrative as a designer with a strong connection to anthropology and sociology.

 

I am not afraid to take on the challenge of complex curved designs because I believe that curved surfaces bring a richer feeling to people. Secondly, I specialise in introducing green space into my designs, as the enormous pressures of today's society continue to overwhelm people, and perhaps improving the living environment is long-lasting and profound. Finally, I specialise in interpreting my designs through narrative techniques to enhance the readability and richness of the project.

 

Architect Tom Heatherwick's design philosophy has profoundly influenced me. His dramatic, highly engaging architectural and landscape forms based on sustainable principles encourage people to engage in sustainable green living and actively address climate issues and the biodiversity crisis, which is what my future as a designer is all about: building liveable spaces in harmony with nature.

 

I will then pursue postgraduate studies in landscape architecture, learning to think critically and interdisciplinarily to delve into areas of interest to me, such as sustainable design, disaster healing, natural landscapes, biological conservation, and more. To become an imaginative, logical, and interdisciplinary landscape architect and interior designer.
